Movie review...

I watched a movie the other evening called The Counsellor. It was not a happy experience. It had a veritable smorgasbord of Hollywood talent from Brad Pitt to Michael Fassbender to Cameron Diaz to Javier Bardem directed by Ridley Scott and written by Cormac McCarthy.

It should have been a cracking yarn with that line-up; instead it was the most intensely depressing movie I have seen in ages not helped by the fact that I couldn’t understand what the characters were talking about half the time (and it was in English!). The language was verbose and pretentious. Example:

Fassbender: “Please don’t kill my girlfriend?”
Nasty drug dealer: “Her time in this world is almost over gringo; as the sun sets over the bay of everlasting life, a nightingale will carry her spirit to an unmarked grave where she will lie in torment while you regret every moment of the decadent life that has brought you to this turning point….”
Instead of:
Nasty drug dealer (Take 2): “Her time is up and you are to blame.”

It was bad enough that I had a Monday and a six o clock alarm to look forward to; I also had to go to bed with the thought of Fassbender’s girlfriend having her head lopped off in a snuff movie. (Mexican drug dealers think that’s a good way to instil fear in people – you think?!?)

So if you are cuddled up one evening with your partner this might be a good choice depending on where your relationship is going. Otherwise stay well clear – forever!

On a different note: planning a braai for later – have enough meat for a small army. Of course the English weather is playing ball – soggy and grey! At least the sun is shining in Scotland.

Out.

As this blog is about pics as well, see below. This is up the West Coast of South Africa - about an hour outside Cape Town give-or-take. I like the vastness of the space; the big sky layered grey. Those farmhouses sure have a great view!
