Quote of the week:
“He was 100% flightworthy without any limitations.”
This absurd remark was uttered by Lufthansa’s CEO, Carsten Sporh, after Andreas Lubitz flew a Lufthansa plane into a mountain killing all 149 people on board.
By all accounts Andreas Lubitz was a nut job who couldn’t see. I am not an expert in aviation but having an individual who has severe mental issues – and bumps into things – shouldn’t be at the controls of any sort of aircraft; especially one that flies at 35,000 ft and has 149 passengers on it with no way of escaping if things go left.
This does bring into question the quality of the other Lufthansa pilots that Carsten has employed. Because if Lubitz was “100% flightworthy without any limitations” then what does a Lufthansa pilot who may not be perfect look like?
Possibly like an air-flight attendant on British Airways: rude, unhelpful, slow, unsmiling – and often distinctly unattractive. When a fellow customer – no sorry that’s not how BA see people who pay them £1,000 for a ticket – so lets rephrase to: “When a inconvenience” asked for breakfast, the retort was: “We’ve been too busy, it might not come” – this 10 minutes before the flight was about to land. The audacity of the statement left the inconvenience gobsmacked and the “attendant” waddled off.
And woe betide if you get chirpy with one of these “attendants” – you’ll find yourself in plastic cuffs with a black sack over your head before you can say “scrambled eggs”. It’s like those annoying signs you see all over train stations about “Our employees deserve to be treated with respect” – well what about a bit of respect for the paying customer? Forget it – when you travel cattle class – expect to be treated accordingly.
Oh – and don’t expect your in-flight entertainment to work either.
Out ☺
